Stiff Records is a British independent record label formed in London, England, by Dave Robinson and Jake Riviera (real name Andrew Jakeman). Originally active from 1976 to 1986, the label was reactivated in 2007.
Established at the outset of the punk rock boom, Stiff signed various punk and new wave acts such as Nick Lowe, the Damned, Lene Lovich, Wreckless Eric, Elvis Costello, Ian Dury and Devo. In the 1980s, with most of their early signings having moved on, the label found commercial success with Madness, The Pogues, Tracey Ullman, The Belle Stars, Kirsty MacColl and others.
In December 2017, Universal Music Group acquired Stiff Records and ZTT Records.[1]. Razor & Tie holds the American rights to the Stiff catalogue.[2]

The idea from the local council's NCT group is intended to "spread a little sunshine" among the community and show that, while separated, they can be part of something.
Northumberland Communities Together is a team of volunteers who have been busy delivering food parcels and keeping in phone contact with the residents throughout the county - around 18,200 of them - who are shielding during the coronavirus lockdown.
Local youth groups then voted on a suitable song for the dance-along and chose Walking on Sunshine which was a hit in 1985 for the band Katrina and the Waves with Dave Land playing trumpet on the original recording.

Wymondham College to provide music to the ears of N&N patients
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is to host its largest ever musical performance when the students of Wymondham College Jazz Orchestra visit the hospital on Thursday 9th July.
The college’s full orchestra including brass, guitar, double bass and drums will be performing in the West Atrium Restaurant to provide entertainment to patients, visitors and staff.
Emma Jarvis, NNUH Arts coordinator said: “The hospital has a wide variety of audiences from young children visiting relatives to older patients staying on wards. The variety of songs performed by the younger students should appeal to all.”
Dave Land - Wymondham College Brass and Trumpet Teacher commented: “We hope to put a smile on everybody’s face and also give the opportunity to our young musicians at Wymondham College to give a concert. The concert will give people the chance to sing and clap along to our music. On behalf of my director of music at the college, Andrew Day, and myself we are really looking forward to sharing our music with the hospital.”
The performance will be held in the West Atrium Restaurant from 2.30pm for 45minutes on Thursday 9th July.

World Premiere Video: Speedometer and Vanessa Jamie get us swaying
FACEBOOK
TWITTER
(February 13, 2020) We will confess to being new to UK funk and soul band Speedometer, but our introduction has us wanting more. Speedometer has been winning audiences on the other side of the pond for a few years now, and had a hit with the album Soul Overdue.
Now Speedometer has a brand new song and video featuring talented singer Vanessa Jamie, who debuted last year with the single "Talk To Me." “We Gave Up Too Soon” has the feel of early Motown, with an effervescent beat and pumping horns in the background. And Jamie sings the notes right off of the song, using her aching vocals to turn this attractive song into something truly special.
We’re pleased to present the World Premiere of the video for “We Gave Up Too Soon.” We think SoulTrackers are going to love it as much as we do. Check it out below and tell us what you think!

Never Too Late: The Doc Severinsen Story
A film by Kevin Bright & Jeff Consiglio
Just Bright Productions
2020
Never Too Late (Just Bright Productions, 2020) is a meticulously produced and emotion-grabbing documentary portrait of the musical career and life of trumpeter Doc Severinsen. While Duke Ellington may have said "Music is My Mistress," in the case of "Never Too Late" we discover—and superbly at that—that Severinsen's career is a "musical Mona Lisa" that is remarkably still being painted. NEW FILM FOR 2021
It is one of the longest running musicals in West End history, with 7,408 performances; however, the Broadway production ran for only 761 performances. It is also the most popular musical show in Germany, where it has been performed continuously since 1988.

THE BAND TODAY (2004 ONWARDS)
Originally titled “Strange Attractor” this is the Second full length album recorded by The final line up of the band during their most active period touring. A concept album, it was based on the band’s new found interest in Chaos Theory. Later this was thought too pretentious and based on the wonderful illustration of Jude Evans they chose to rename the album.
The original live sessions were recorded on Stage Two at Thorn EMI Elstree Film Studios in 1989 and completed in Neil’s studio in Potters Bar.
In addition to the regular band of Andy, Austen, John, Neil and Rami the recordings also featured performances from the legendary drummer from the rare groove giant Cymande Sam Kelly on Four Tracks after which he left the band and Steve Laffey replaced him on the sessions. Also Lea Andrews; Catriona McDougall and Jo Payne on backgrounds and the first appearance on Am Band recordings of Stewart Curtis (sax) & Dave Land (trumpet).

The Supremes at Theatre by QE2 Dance and sing along to hits by one of Motown’s premier all-girl singing groups, The Supremes. Former members Scherrie Payne and Susaye Greene are performing live aboard the QE2 with American singer Joyce Vincent.
Debuting in the 1960s, The Supremes were, and still are, one of Motown Records' most commercially successful acts. They rivalled The Beatles at the peak of their popularity with hits like ‘Baby Love’ and ‘Stop! In The Name Of Love’. While the original members included Diana Ross, Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson and Betty McGlown, the line-up changed in the 1970s with Lynda Laurence, Scherrie Payne and Susaye Greene.

Happy memories of touring with Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons back in 1993
Frankie's fantastic American band were joined with the UK brass section
Including: Paul Davies, Dave Plews and myself on trumpets.
We finished the tour with a sell-out performance at the London Palladium, where we all had a photo taken together on the stage after sound check.
I am still trying to locate that picture (via New York & United Artists) as it was one of the last tours I played on standing next to Dave Plews before his sudden death. Rest in Peace Plewsy!!

NORWICH SCHOOL PREPARES FOR HOSTRY FESTIVAL EVENTS
13 OCTOBER 2017
Preparations are in full swing as Norwich School prepares to host The Hostry Festival Classical Concert in the Blake Studio on Sunday evening, 7-9pm. The evening is a brand new event for the Hostry Festival which hopes to celebrate Norfolk’s young emerging musicians.
The Hostry Festival have partnered with Norfolk Music Hub and Norwich School to bring together the county’s top up and coming young performers of classical music. Norfolk’s next generation of musicians will be performing songs, piano, wind, strings and percussion, involving both original composition and much loved classical music. The guest of honour, and newly appointed concert patron, is Julian Lloyd Webber.
The evening begins with a trumpet fanfare written by Norwich School trumpet teacher Dave Land entitled ‘Cloister Fanfare’. This will be the premiere of the piece and includes Norwich School players India Riordan (L6B), Matthew James (L6B), Henry Lee (L6C), Shannon Lai (U6S) and Daniel Possener (M5S).Also performing from Norwich School are Alice Palmer (M5C), who will sing Antonio Caldara’s Sebben Crudele and Caitlin Obee (U6B) who plays George Enesco’s Cantabile et Presto on flute.
The event is the first of the two week programme of events held by the Hostry Festival, which includes The Norfolk Arts Awards where the Norwich School 2016 musical will be celebrated. Ms Ziegler and Mr Allain are nominated for the Dr Frank Bates Dance and Musical Theatre Award for their roles in the production of Sweeney Todd. The school is also delighted that Megan Blair (U6P) will be performing at the event having been invited following a performance at last year’s Blake Studio opening by festival co-founder and Artistic Director Stash Kirkbride. Megan will be one of the music acts featuring at the red carpet gala event on Friday 20th October at The Hostry, Norwich Cathedral.
Megan, as well as Director of Music Mr Allain took part in a BBC Radio Norfolk broadcast for the Hostry Festival last week, which you can listen to here.

The name of the series came from a poster Virgin boss Richard Branson found in a bric-a-brac shop on Portobello Road, depicting a singing chicken and a pig exclaiming "Now that’s what I call music!".
Branson gave the poster to Virgin Records Co-Founder Simon Draper, and a couple of years later they thought the wise words of the porker could be a great slogan for the compilation idea they had come up with.
It could also explain why the latest version has a pig wearing sunglasses on its front cover.
Interestingly enough, Branson went on to marry the owner of the shop.
