Dave started his playing career at the age of ten playing  cornet with his local S.A. brass band (Norwich Citadel) and also with his School Orchestra (City of Norwich School), plus Norfolk County Orchestra & Wind Band. His first professional gig was at the age of fifteen where he spent two weeks playing for  Sadlers Well's touring company with a visit to the Theatre Royal Norwich, that same year Dave was invited to play in the brass section for a concert given by Sir Cliff  Richard at Norwich Cathedral (1975).  He auditioned in London for a place with the    National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain , Dave then  started  to deputise on trumpet  a few years later!.                                         

At the age of sixteen Dave auditioned on trumpet & cornet for a place with one of the  most famous Military bands in the world -  Band of HM Coldstream Guards .  He then moved from Norwich to London to study trumpet and cornet (Prize - Winner) at Kneller Hall  (Royal Military School of Music)  with professor of trumpet & cornet  Ian Mackintosh (BBC Symphony Orchestra) and his legendary cornet virtuoso father Jack Mackintosh, before taking his place with the   Band of HM Coldstream Guards  where he held the position of solo trumpet for seven years.

(Dave is a  3rd Generation Coldstream Guardsman - his Great uncle Served with the elite regiment doing the Boer War and his Grandfather served with the Coldstream Guards doing the Great War)

After ‘de mobbing' from the HM Forces in the early eighties, Dave began his freelance career in London with the BBC ‘Come Dancing' Orchestra directed by Andy Ross also playing for the Miss World competitions. From there he then began to play and deputise in the West End shows, various Palais (Mecca) bands in London including Hammersith Palais and Leicester Square,  plus spending time in America (New York - Fort Lauderdale) and the Caribbean performing on the World famous cruise liner  QEII.

From there, Dave started on a ground breaking new show by  Andrew Lloyd Webber         'Starlight Express'. Dave spent the next sixteen years working for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Usuful Company with ' Starlight Express until the show ended at the Apollo Theatre Victoria in 2002, being the second longest running show in British Musical history, CATS  being the longest.

​Dave carried on his busy freelance work whilst he was at  Starlight Express,  spending a lot of time recording and touring with various 'Pop' artistes and the commercial side of the music industry.

Dave is credited on over 168 albums  including many  Gold, Silver & Platinum, Triple Platinum  disc awards plus the famous Grand Prix du Disque  award (PCTO), he can also be heard on many  radio, television & film  soundtracks.

Highlights of Dave's career include meeting  Her Majesty the Queen before performing a solo trumpet spot on Horse Guards Parade, meeting President Fidel Castro in Cuba whilst performing with Richard Branson's 'Virgin Band, meeting 'Buzz' Aldrin (Apollo Astronout) in New York as part of Virgin Atlantic 25th party, also meeting and performing for Lady Walton (Widow of Sir William Walton).

Dave continues to freelance in London and abroad working with the top names in the music industry as well as being involved with music education, he is also excited to be part of many 'up & coming' bands and artist's from the UK and abroad. Dave's trumpet playing can be heard around the world with such hits as                                'Walking on Sunshine'  Katrina & the Waves  (Millions of copies sold Worldwide).
